Log a puff with a breath.

Billow is a puff counter for cutting down and quitting vaping. Blow toward your phone and it counts the puff; your daily limit steps down a little each week, and you watch your body come back.

Breathe out, and it's counted.

After a puff, open Billow and breathe out toward the bottom of your phone, where the microphone is. The plume climbs with your breath and a soft tone swells with it; when it reaches the top, the puff is logged. Out in public? Switch to haptics only, or tap to log.

The mic listens while you log, and never records.

The blow screen: the ring shows 28 of 64 today as a plume of vapour rises up the blue screen.

Know where you stand.

Today's count against today's limit, a week of days you stayed under it, and the time since your last puff, counting up. Commit to the limit in the morning; Billow keeps it in view all day.

Today: 28 of 64 puffs and 36 left, a week of days under the limit, and 1 hour 12 minutes since the last puff.

Watch your body recover.

From your last puff, Billow fills in what your body does as nicotine leaves: heart rate settling within minutes, taste and smell within days, sleep and breathing over the weeks after. The timings are what most people can expect, not a promise.

Health: heart rate, blood pressure and taste and smell reached, nicotine leaving the body at 75 percent, 2 days 6 hours since the last puff.

A limit that steps down.

Tell Billow how much you vape now and where you want to be. It builds a taper plan: a daily limit that lowers a little each week, to zero or to a number you choose, over as many weeks as you need.

Your plan: 64 a day this week, stepping down to zero over 10 weeks.

Spot your triggers.

An hourly map shows when you reach for your vape. After a pause, Billow asks what brought the puff on (hungry, angry, lonely, tired or something else), so you learn your triggers: why you vape, not only when.

Patterns: an hour-by-hour map of puffs, and the reasons logged, led by stressed and bored.

See what you've kept.

Puffs avoided, money kept and nicotine avoided since you started, and milestones for the gaps you hold: hours between puffs, then whole days without one.

Progress: 1,089 puffs avoided, $24.50 kept and 191 mg of nicotine avoided.

For the harder days.

Small daily practices, borrowed from the way people recover from habits, sized for a phone.

Breathe with Billow: a ring guiding a slow breath out as the plume settles.

Ride out a craving

Two minutes of slow breathing with the plume. For most people an urge peaks and passes within a few minutes.

The evening check-in: a good day, the hardest moment, what helped and one thing to try tomorrow.

Just for today

Commit to the limit in the morning. At night, look back: the hardest moment, what helped, one thing to try tomorrow.

Learn: day 20 of 30, with today's tip on riding out a craving.

Learn as you go

Log from anywhere.

Widgets for your Home Screen and Lock Screen show today's count, the time since your last puff and your week, with +1 to log in a tap. Control Center and the Action Button work too, and Blow opens straight to the blow screen.

Billow's small, medium and large widgets on the app blue, each with a +1 button and a Blow button, beside the Lock Screen widgets.

Common questions

How does Billow count puffs?

After a puff, open Billow and breathe out toward the bottom of your iPhone, where the microphone is. When the plume reaches the top of the screen, the puff is logged. You can also tap to log, or use the widgets, Control Center or the Action Button.

Does Billow record what the microphone hears?

No. Billow listens only while the blow screen is open. The sound is analysed on your iPhone as it happens and discarded; it is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.

Can I quit vaping by cutting down gradually?

Many people find it easier to cut down step by step than to stop all at once. Billow sets a daily limit and lowers it a little each week, to zero or to a number you choose. A doctor or a quitline can help you pick the approach that suits you.

What helps when a craving hits?

Billow's SOS button opens what helps fastest: two minutes of paced breathing, a ten-minute wait timer, a Nicotine Anonymous meeting, and a free quitline where one is known for your region. For most people a craving peaks and passes within a few minutes.

Is Billow free?

Logging, today's count, your week, the widgets, the reads, SOS and the first health steps are free. Billow Plus adds the taper plan, hourly patterns and triggers, a daily tip, full history and progress, for $4.99 a month with a 3-day free trial or $39.99 once.

Does Billow need an account?

No. There is no account and no Billow server. What you log stays on your iPhone.
